Day of to Day 3 After All-on-4
These first 72 hours after All-on-4 dental implant placement are critical for clot stability and implant protection.
What to eat:
- Protein shakes (no straws)
- Smooth soups, fully blended
- Applesauce
- Yogurt without fruit chunks
- Meal replacement drinks
What to avoid:
- Hot foods first 24 hours
- Anything requiring chewing
- Seeds, grains, or texture
- Straws due to suction risk
Days 4–7 After All-on-4
About one week after All-on-4 dental implant placement, most patients can expand food choices slightly, but chewing should remain minimal.
What to eat:
- Scrambled eggs
- Mashed potatoes
- Cottage cheese
- Oatmeal or cream of wheat
- Soft fish like flaky cod
Still avoid:
- Chewing with force
- Crunchy or sticky foods
- Using temporary teeth to “test” pressure
Weeks 2–6 After All-on-4 (Before Final Teeth Placement)
During this phase before final teeth placement, implants are still integrating with the bone.
What to eat
- Soft pasta
- Ground meats
- Soft cooked vegetables
- Meatloaf
- Soft casseroles
What to continue avoiding:
- Steak
- Nuts
- Raw vegetables
- Hard bread or crusts
- Chewing ice
What to Eat Right After Final All-on-4 Teeth Placement
Even though your implants have fully integrated with the bone, your bite and jaw still need a short adjustment period once the final teeth are secured.
For the first 2–3 days after final teeth placement:
- Stick to soft or lightly chewable foods
- Avoid very hard, crunchy, or sticky foods
- Expect mild tenderness as your bite settles
This brief transition allows your muscles, bite alignment, and prosthetic to adapt comfortably. Most patients begin expanding their diet within a few days and feel close to normal chewing within two weeks.
All-on-4 Ongoing Food Considerations
Final prosthetic placement usually occurs around 4–6 months after All-on-4, depending on healing. Bite strength improves overtime, but habits after final placement still matters.
What patients can return to:
- Firmer meats
- Crunchy foods in moderation
- Broader diet variety
Ongoing habits to protect implants:
- Avoid using teeth as tools
- Limit very hard foods
- Maintain regular follow-ups
Before You Resume Normal Eating
Final teeth are designed for full function, but a short adjustment period is normal after initial surgery and final placement. To learn more about All-on-4 dental implants visit our All-on-4 dental implant page.
